Signing Up
MyMotoMarket is a verified community. Every member — buyer or seller — is a real, identity-checked person. That’s what keeps scammers out and makes it safe to share contact details when a sale is on. Creating an account is the first step for everyone.
Four quick steps, done once:
- Confirm your email — we send a verification link when you register.
- Choose your membership and pay at checkout.
- Verify your ID — a few minutes with your driver licence or passport and your phone camera.
- Done — you can buy and sell from then on.
Check your spam or junk folder first — verification emails sometimes land there. If it’s genuinely not arrived after a few minutes, contact us at support@mymotomarket.co.nz and we’ll sort it out.
ID Verification
Because it protects both sides of every deal. Sellers know enquiries come from real people; buyers know the person behind a listing is exactly who they say they are. It takes a few minutes, once, and it’s the single biggest thing that keeps MyMotoMarket safe to trade on.
MyMotoMarket works with Stripe to conduct identity verification online. Stripe builds technology that’s used by millions of companies around the world such as Amazon, Google, and Zoom. Stripe helps with everything from accepting payments to managing subscriptions to verifying identities.
Stripe helps MyMotoMarket confirm your identity by conducting the following checks:
- Stripe captures images of the front and back of your government-issued photo ID and reviews it to make sure that the document is authentic. They’ve built an automated identity verification technology that looks for patterns to help determine if a government-issued ID document is real or fake. This process is like a bank teller checking your ID document to confirm that it’s real.
- Stripe captures photos of your face and reviews them to confirm that the photo ID belongs to you. They’ve built automated identity verification technology that uses distinctive physiological characteristics of your face (known as biometric identifiers) to match the photos of your face with the photo on the ID document. This process is similar to a bank teller confirming that the photo on your ID document is you based on your appearance—but it’s a higher-tech and more accurate way to identify you as a unique person.
- Stripe collects your name, date of birth, and government ID number, and validates that it’s real. They’ll check this information against a global set of databases to confirm that it exists.
Stripe asks for your consent before collecting and using your biometric information. They only use your verification data in accordance with the permissions you grant before starting the verification process, and based on their Privacy Policy.

Before starting the verification process, here’s what you need:
- A valid government-issued photo ID document. Not a photocopy or a picture of a government-issued ID document. Make sure that the ID document isn’t expired.
- A device with a camera—use a mobile device if possible. Cameras on mobile devices typically take higher-quality photos than a webcam.
The quality of the images you capture affects success rates dramatically. Below are a few best practices to help make sure that your verification succeeds:
- Capture a clear image. Make sure that the images aren’t too dark or bright, and don’t have a glare. Hold steady and allow your camera to focus to avoid blurry photos.
- Don’t block any part of your ID document in the image. Ideally you can lay it flat to take the photo.
- Don’t block any part of your face. Remove sunglasses, masks, or other accessories.
- Find a location with ambient lighting. Avoid spaces with strong overhead lights that cast a shadow on your face or ID document. Avoid sitting directly in front of a bright light which can wash out your face and add a glare to your ID document.
Both MyMotoMarket and Stripe have access to the information that you submit through the verification flow. We rely on Stripe to help store your verification data. Stripe uses access controls and security standards that are at least as stringent as those used to handle their own KYC and payments compliance data.

On our own site we record only the outcome — whether your verification succeeded, and when. We don’t store copies of your ID documents or photos on MyMotoMarket; those are captured and held by Stripe under the safeguards described above.
Don’t worry — it’s usually an image-quality issue. Head back to the verification page and try again, following the best practices above (good lighting and a phone camera make the biggest difference). If it still won’t go through, contact us at support@mymotomarket.co.nz and we’ll arrange to verify you another way.
Listing Fees
We believe sellers should know exactly what they’ll pay before they list. Rather than charging commissions or success fees after your item sells, MyMotoMarket charges a low upfront listing fee. This keeps costs predictable and means you keep 100% of the sale price.
Unlike platforms that process payments and take a percentage of every sale, MyMotoMarket leaves payments directly between buyers and sellers. This avoids payment processing costs and allows us to keep our listing fees low, regardless of how much your item eventually sells for.
Listing fees are based on the asking price of your item, with several pricing tiers to keep fees fair across low and high value listings. Motorcycles and trailers have their own flat listing fee. See our fee table for details.
Your listing fee is based on the asking price you select when creating your listing, not the final sale price. If you negotiate a different price with the buyer, there are no additional fees or commissions payable to MyMotoMarket, or refunds because you sold the item for less that you expected.
Our system automatically checks your listing when you save it, if your asking price is too high for the fee tier you paid for it will take you to the Fee Corrections page where you can choose the option to top up the the fee value.
You originally purchased a listing fee on a tier that covered the asking price of your item. If you then entered an asking price too high for the tier it saved your listing as a draft and now needs you to pay a correction fee to publish your listing. If you just entered the price wrong on your listing you can find your way back there by going to your user menu and clicking on My Listings, you’ll find your listing there, you can edit the price, save and click on unhide to publish your listing.
No — each listing fee covers one listing for its full life, including free renewals. Once a fee has been used on a listing it stays with that listing, so a new item needs a new listing fee.
If you actually went through the checkout and got lost after the receipt page then you just need to click on your user menu and go to My Listings to find your draft listing. If there isn’t one there, then you just need to click on the Add Listing button and it should start one without you having to pay again. If all else fails come back here and click on the link below and you can go straight to the Listing Fees page. If you’re still having trouble, contact us at support@mymotomarket.co.nz.
Selling & Managing Your Listings
Congratulations — you have a buyer! Your listing is automatically hidden while you arrange the sale, and you’ll receive both an email and an on-platform message with the buyer’s name, email, and phone number. Contact them directly to arrange payment and pickup or delivery. If the deal falls through, simply edit your listing from My Listings and unselect “Hide” to make it visible again.
Your listing runs for 30 days. A few days before it expires we’ll email you a heads-up — no action needed. When it expires, the listing is hidden and we email you a free one-click renewal link. You can also renew anytime from My Listings. Renewing is always free — your original listing fee covers the listing for as long as you need it.
No — if your listing is already hidden (because the buyer used the Purchase button), just leave it, and any expiry email can be ignored. Just make sure you contact your buyer asap as although they may have clicked to purchase they aren’t locked in until you finalise the sale off platform.
There are three normal reasons: a buyer has clicked Purchase This Listing (it’s held while you arrange the sale), your asking price needs a fee correction (you’ll have been sent to the Fee Corrections page), or it has expired (renew for free from My Listings or your expiry email). Each comes with an email explaining the next step — and if you’re ever unsure, contact us.
You can “Hide” or “Unhide” your listing at any time via My Listings in your user menu. There is also a “Delete” option right next to that If you wish to permanently delete your listing.
Buying
Once you’ve signed up and verified your ID, you can contact any seller. Use “Reply to Listing” to ask questions, or click “Purchase This Listing” when you’re ready to buy.
It tells the seller you want to buy: your name, email, and phone number are shared with them, and the listing is hidden while you both arrange the sale. It’s a genuine commitment to buy — not a payment — so only click it when you’re ready. The seller will contact you directly to arrange payment and pickup or delivery.
No — if your listing is already hidden (because the buyer used the Purchase button), just leave it, and any expiry email can be ignored. Just make sure you contact your buyer asap as although they may have clicked to purchase they aren’t locked in until you finalise the sale off platform.
No. Payment happens directly between you and the seller, however you both agree — MyMotoMarket never holds your money and never takes a cut of the sale. As with any private sale, we recommend inspecting the item before you pay.
We verify people, not products. Every seller is identity-checked, which removes the anonymity scammers rely on — but the sale itself is between you and the seller, so inspect the item, ask questions, and use the same good judgment you would with any private sale.
There’s no obligation on either side until you and the seller complete the sale between yourselves. If it doesn’t work out, just keep browsing — the listing may reappear if the seller relists it. If something about a seller concerns you, let us know at support@mymotomarket.co.nz.
Because trust has to run both ways. Sellers on MyMotoMarket share their contact details with buyers — they deserve to know those enquiries come from real, identifiable people. It’s the same check sellers complete, it takes a few minutes, and you only ever do it once.
Your Account & Support
You’ll find all four in your user menu. My Listings is where your listings live — published, hidden, and drafts. My Details holds your contact information. My Usage shows your membership and the listing fees you’ve purchased. My Orders has your payment history and receipts — start there for any billing question.
Other users see only your display name. Your contact details (name, email, phone) are shared with a seller only when you click “Purchase This Listing” on their item — and never otherwise.
Email us at support@mymotomarket.co.nz — include your account email and, if it’s about a listing, the listing title. We’ll get back to you as quickly as we can.
